Working from Home

Over the past few weeks, several of my clients have talked about working from home.  Some see it as an advantage:  no commute, time to run errands, not having to dress for work.  Others see it this way:  You’re never off the clock.

One of my clients in IT told me how common it was for major companies to let employees work from home.  One big advantage for employers is that they don’t need real estate or furniture for employees working from home.

My feeling is mixed about this option.  For some people, it will work.  For others, it will lead to more pressure, a sense of always being at work.  I rent office space because I want to keep my work world separate from my personal life.  I don’t know if that is possible in a work from home position.

  1. Renting office space is a great alternative to working from home because you still have somewhere to ‘go’ and you can ‘leave’ work. I do agree that when you work from home you are always available to work even at the weekends, however if you set up a home office, you just have to train yourself to shut the door and leave the work for tomorrow. I don’t think it is the ideal solution but it definitely does have its benefits.
