Leave a Clear Message

Little things make a big difference.  Job seekers need to practice good communication skills and business etiquette at all stages of looking for work.  One important way to do this is to leave clear phone messages.  Identify yourself, describe the reason for your call, leave your number, and repeat your name and number.  This advice might sound simplistic or even condescending.  However, if a busy HR screener or hiring manager can’t understand your message, she might not take the time to listen to it a second time.  You’ll be someone they wanted to interview who didn’t call back, and they’ll hire someone else.  It’s simple and easy to do: Leave clear messages.
