Help Finding a Job in the New Year

The Chicago Sun-Times’ offers its readers a series of articles and resources on how to get a job in the new year.  What I like most about this articles, all written by business reporter Sandra Guy, was that they touch several facets of  the job search.  There is some very good practical advice about identifying leads, maintaining a good web presence, and using social media.  Guy has also written an article on the importance of networking the old-fashioned way, which I still think is the best way to find a new job and build connections needed to have a successful career.  Finally, the series includes a list of top private and public sector employers in the state of Illinois.  My caution on this list would be that state and local governments have been cutting more than hiring over the past few years.  Nothing on the horizon says that trend will change.  With that small caution said, I strongly recommend this “gift” from the Sun-Times to anyone looking for a job in Chicago or its suburbs.
